Class Name Empowered to Connect: Understanding trauma and strategies to bring healing and improved self regulation and learning (Area Wide)
Description

This course will examine the causes of trauma in children’s lives and the impacts this makes on learning. There will be much discussion on brain development and impacts of trauma in early years There will be focus on strategies to help children overcome deep loss and trauma. Participates will learn practical ways to help children understand and know triggers for behaviors as well as coping skills. There will be much researched based strategies to implement and help provided differential instruction. Opportunities for participants to learn to discuss ideas collaboratively.

This class has a two part registration:

1)  To be a part of the learning experience all participants need to enroll and pay for the learning at Empowered to Connect at GNCC.

2)  Participants interested in receiving Teacher Licensure Renewal Credit must register and pay for the credit through the PLAEA Generation Ready at https://aea8.avatarlms.com/login.html

5.       There will be many research based strategies to implement and help provide differentiated instruction.

6.       Participates will learn practical ways to help children understand and know triggers for behaviors as well as coping skills.

Opportunities for participants to learn and discuss ideas collaboratively.

Class Materials Participants will be provided course workbook/guide from Empowered to Connect, will also use materials and information from Dr. Karen Purvius and other professionals.

Class Requirements Participants will be given reflection questions that they will need to provide summaries for. These summary papers will be evaluated to assess understanding and knowledge from course. Participants will also be assessed for engagement during the activities and also collaborative groups, participants will make a discussion log for collaborative group time.
